apc mapping like a dj mixer Empty apc mapping like a dj mixer

Post by dannymacc Tue Jun 22, 2010 9:03 pm

hi there this is my 1st post on this forum.hope someone can help.

ive had my apc40 and ableton live about a week now and im gonna use it to dj after finally selling my cdjs and mixer.

ive learnt how to beatwarp tracks and looping etc but one problem i find when using it to mix tracks is the eq's (bass, mid, treble).

when the master dj setting is open its great to use,but the problem is,you can only use it on one channel at once.whereas as anyone will know when your djing just like on a dj mixer.you take the bass out of one track while bringing the bass in on the other track same with the treble etc.

so my question is how do i do this on my apc.

is it possible to control 2 channels at once, and if so.could i re map the top set of knobs where the pan, return, send knobs are so i could use these

thanks

Three ways I know of:

1/ The way I do it. I have a native Audio 8 Soundcard and use a seperate external out in Ableton to four channels of my Denon DNX-1500 mixer. I then can use the APC40 effects etc but also use the bass, mid and treble of the mixer and it's effects.

2/ You can remap the track control so Send A is Bass, Send B Mid and Send c Treble.

3/ You can use Darren Cowleys custom APC40 template.

i'm also curious how to do this. I want to be able to adjust 2 things at once on 2 different channels, but I'm not sure how to. normally for mixing, you take down the bass while bringing up the bass in the second track at the same time. with the APC40, it seems you can only control elements of one channel at a time.

this is a great easy dj set up, it should allow you to do everything you are trying to with the apc40

I don't want to buy another mixer just to suit my needs. so that leaves option 2, which right now, doesn't seem to work properly when I remap it. it resets itself when I switch channels. where do I get the darren cowley custom template? which version of live do I need?

You need Live version 8.2, Max4Live 5.1.5 and an invitation to the drobox for which details you'll find at http://thestudiosessions.co.uk you'll need the Master Template Buy Now button on the right...

Also The Riley and Durant video on youtube is pretty helpful. Very Happy

here you go.
Check out these 2 tutorials.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqJcHCWqRhE&feature=related
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfFMt4_dxK4&feature=related
also got my play, stop, and record button just above the crossfader mapped to start loop set loop and exit loop it's realy handy as well.
i have been hearing some people doing this with the tap tempo and nudge buttons but it sucks if you want to mix in and out of cd's or other sources. also another good one it to move the stop clip function down to the record arm buttons and use the 1-8 track stop buttons for speaker on and the 1-8 track selection buttons for bass kills.
I hope you like some of these ideas.

I find myself using the bass mid and treble kills of my template the most, just for chopping them in, a stutter on a kick sounds wicked if you drop the bass out of it in stabs....
